Since finishing the first table back in August of 2004, I've received lots of pictures from people who have built their own tables based on my design. Some of these people have come up with some great modifications to my original design, and I've been getting the itch to build a second table, incorporating some of these modifications into this new table.
My good friend Shawn recently held a no-limit tournament at his place, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to build a second table, since he didn't have a poker table of his own. I offered to build the table, and he gladly accepted. Thus began my design for table #2.
Before I began the table, there were a few things that had to be done. First, the table had to be smaller than my first. Shawn's space was limited, and a 65" table was just too big for the space. We measured the area and determined that reducing the size approx. 10" in diameter would be a perfect fit. Second, the table needed to be a bit cheaper. My first table ran me about $306 in materials and took me about 40 hours to build. Just shrinking down the table 10" actually saves about $100 in material costs. I only needed 2 4' x 8' sheets of plywood, instead of 3 (and those are about $40 a piece), and only needed 2 of each size pine boards, instead of 4. Plus, ordering the cup holders at casinosupply.com saved about $15 for the cup holders. I was able to finish the entire project for $205 in materials cost, and cut about 10 hours off the project.
The two major design modifications that I wanted to incorporate into the table were rounded edges on the chip holder areas, and one-piece looking pedestal design. I was able to successfully do both, and I think the improvements really take the table to a whole new level.
Here is a picture of the finished table, along with close ups of the pedestal & chip holder areas. If you would like to know more information regarding the design and measurements of this sytle of table, see the Table #3 page.
